#Zelensky goes up against #Putin, and the Kremlin responds: This will not end the war
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday signed a decree officially confirming the "impossibility" of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but kept the door open for talks with Russia.
The decree formalized statements made by Zelensky, on Friday, after the Russian president announced the annexation of 4 regions occupied by his country in Ukraine, a measure described by Kyiv and the West as an illegal farce.
"He (Putin) does not know the meaning of dignity and honor. Therefore, we are ready for dialogue with Russia, but with another president of Russia," Zelensky said Friday.
On the other hand, the Kremlin responded by saying that its "special military operation" in Ukraine would not end if Kyiv ruled out entering into talks, and noted that "negotiation requires two sides."
"Either we will wait for the current president to change his position, or we will wait for the next president to change his position in the interests of the Ukrainian people," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
