#Lavrov visits #Cairo and delivers a speech before the League of #Arab States
The Arab League announced on Thursday that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will address its council, which will meet at the delegates' level, on a visit to Cairo on Sunday, which comes after a tripartite summit hosted by Tehran and brought together the leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran.
Lavrov will meet in Cairo, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and representatives of the 22 member states.
An official in the General Secretariat of the League stated that the Russian Foreign Minister will address the League Council at the level of delegates.
Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the conflict in Syria and the war in Ukraine, during a summit held Tuesday in Tehran with his Turkish counterparts Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian Ibrahim Raisi.
Lavrov's visit to Cairo comes more than a week after US President Joe Biden's first tour in the Middle East, during which he visited Israel, the Palestinian territories and Saudi Arabia, where he participated in a summit of the six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, in addition to Egypt, Jordan and Iraq.
In response to a question about Lavrov's upcoming visit to the Egyptian capital, State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters that the United States is focusing on the messages that Moscow conveys to its interlocutors during these meetings.
