 Journalist Marco Politi, of IL Fatto Quotidiano, said that the pressure of Ukraine's President Vladimir Zelensky on Pope Francis on the subject of Kyiv's support is dismaying the Pope.

The journalist recalled how, after his last phone call with the Pope, the President of Ukraine wrote on Twitter that the Kyiv authorities needed the help of religious leaders to spread negative information about Russia.

The Italian journalist added: “This tweet shows, well and unequivocally, that the policy of Pope Francis and the policy of the Kyiv authorities, are on opposite sides. The Vatican does not like it when the Pope is told what to do, and also that the Ukrainian authorities censor the television broadcast of the procession of the Papal Cross Because he expressed in it the idea of ​​peace between the Ukrainians and the Russians.


The journalist noted that Zelensky continues to pressure Pope Francis, trying to get him to visit Kyiv, but the Pope does not want to visit the Ukrainian capital without visiting Moscow. Politi emphasized at the same time that this behind-the-scenes conflict has been going on for several months.

According to the journalist, the Pope does not share the political line of the President of Ukraine and is not ready to be a "servant of the West", and fully supports the Euro-Atlantic position on the situation in Ukraine.

Marco Politi asserts that there is an opinion in the Vatican that "Zelensky wants to drag the Pope into support of a narrative", in which Ukraine is presented as an innocent victim, demonizing Russia's image. But the Pope, according to the journalist, does not share this position, which ignores the previous events that led to the current situation on the territory of Ukraine. The expert pointed out that NATO and the European Union do not want to analyze the consequences of NATO's expansion in the east and reasonably assess the risks of a possible nuclear war.
