America takes advantage of Russia's blunder in the "#Ukraine Bridge" #usa #paris
In the midst of the Ukraine war, Russia received an openly embarrassing blow in the Donbas region, when its tanks and soldiers sank in a river, and the United States is currently trying to take advantage of this mistake to develop the ability to move troops across water obstacles as efficiently as the Egyptian army did in the October War of 1973.
And an incident described as a "setback" for the Russians occurred last May, when Russian forces tried to cross the Seversky Donets River in Donbas, but failed to do so.
In order to cross the river, Russian forces built a pontoon bridge over the river on May 8, as part of their attempt to encircle Ukrainian forces in the Lyschansk region.
Kyiv observed a large number of Russian mechanisms gathering on the other side of the river, as well as the Russians bringing in cutters for the installation of floating bridges, the length of each of them was 10 meters, knowing that the width of the river there was 80 meters.
It takes several hours to install such a bridge, and the Russians tried to mislead the Ukrainians by setting fire to the area and firing gas bombs to block the view, but the Ukrainians used the drones.
After the Ukrainians found out about the bridge, they prepared to bomb it while some Russian military vehicles were on the bridge, and the battle erupted.
The Ukrainian artillery fired heavy fire on the bridge, and the air force joined them, causing heavy losses in the ranks of the Russian forces, and the battle continued until May 10.
There were reports that 30 Russian military vehicles were destroyed, about 40 others were damaged, and some of them sank in the river, which constituted a great loss for the Russians.
Floating bridges are an indispensable means in wars to bypass water obstacles, especially rivers and canals with variable flow rates. Perhaps the most successful model in this is what the Egyptian forces did in the October War of 1973 when they crossed the Suez Canal in a record period.
American benefit
And the American "Military" website, which specializes in military affairs, considered that what happened to the Russian army in the river ended with the soldiers bathing in its waters.
He pointed out that the US military wants to benefit from what he described as Russia's mistake in the Battle of the River.
The site stated that army engineers are currently working to make the floating bridge technology more reliable and effective, after taking into account the experience of the Russians in the Donbass.
The US Army Center of Engineers is working in partnership with the Combat Support Program towards increasing the capacity of the floating bridges. The current floating bridge capacity of the US Army and Marine Corps is 105 vehicles that can carry or 85 tracked vehicles.
In extreme cases, this bridge, approved since 2003, can increase the load to 110 motorized vehicles or 90 tracked vehicles.
many accounts
By increasing the carrying capacity of this bridge, the American forces can move large forces between the two banks of a river within a short period, to reduce the impact of any strikes that may be exposed to it, as happened with the Russian army in the Donbass.
The US Army's testing team uses complete and small models to simulate the payload of each vehicle and the river's water conditions, to get an estimate of how many mechanisms can cross the river.
In September 2021, the US Army completed the first phase of a floating bridge test, which included a complete simulation of transporting military vehicles of different weights and variable speeds.
American engineers began with small mechanisms and then gradually introduced heavier mechanisms to measure the bridge's ability to withstand changes in the speed and strength of the river current, which may be affected by bombing operations.
