Muqtada al-Sadr: This is a great opportunity to fundamentally change the political system
Today, Sunday, the leader of the Sadrist movement in Iraq, Muqtada al-Sadr, described what is happening in the country as a "great opportunity to change the political system and the constitution."
Al-Sadr said, in a tweet on his Twitter account: "The spontaneous, peaceful revolution that liberated the Green Zone as a first stage is the golden opportunity for all of the people stung by the fire of injustice, terrorism, corruption, occupation and dependency."
He added, "I hope that the tragedy of missing the first golden opportunity in 2016 will not be repeated. Yes, this is a great opportunity to fundamentally change the political system and the constitution, and the elections, which if rigged in favor of the deep state, will become the best free and fair elections. on the one hand, and malicious claims on the other.
He continued: "Oh, the Iraqi people, you are all responsible and all of you are at stake...either an Iraq that is lofty among nations, or a vassal Iraq controlled by the corrupt, vassals and those with worldly ambitions, and even moved by the hands of the outside, east and west."
The leader of the Sadrist movement explained, in the same tweet: "Whoever hears the reform awareness and does not support it, he will be a prisoner of violence, militias, kidnapping, greed, intimidation, marginalization, poverty, humiliation and the erasure of dignity."
He continued, "I call on everyone to support the revolutionaries for reform, including our proud clans, our security forces, and members of the Mujahid Popular Mobilization Forces who refuse to submit and submit to all groups of the people."
He concluded his tweet by saying: "But if you miss the opportunity, do not blame me, for I invite you to what is in your goodness and reform, and to save your homeland, your dignity, your food, your choices and your prestige."
Yesterday, Saturday, the heavily fortified Green Zone in the capital, Baghdad, witnessed an intrusion by thousands of Sadrists' supporters and their announcement of a sit-in inside the parliament headquarters, as an expression of their rejection of Muhammad al-Sudani's nomination as prime minister.
As the situation escalated, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi delivered a speech in which he held the political blocs responsible for the escalation, and demanded that they give priority to the language of dialogue and make concessions to overcome the crisis.
