Sudanese protest again to demand civilian authority #sudan #uk #usa
Thousands of Sudanese went out in the capital, Khartoum, today, Sunday, to protest and demand civilian rule, justice and the return of the military to their barracks.
Since the twenty-fifth of October, Sudan has been living in turbulent conditions due to the continuous protests that reject the measures taken by the army chief, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, on the twenty-fifth of October 2021.
The security forces confronted the protesters and used tear gas extensively to repel them before they reached the street leading to the presidential palace. Hours before the protests began, the central Khartoum area turned into a "military area", where security forces deployed heavily and closed some main streets.
Fears are growing that Sudan will slide into chaos, especially after the tribal violence that the country witnessed during the past weeks, which led to dozens of deaths in the Blue Nile regions bordering the Ethiopian border; and Kassala in the east of the country.
In light of the severe uncertainty surrounding the political scene and the disruption of the dialogue facilitated by the tripartite mechanism composed of the United Nations, the African Union and the IGAD group; The country is experiencing a severe crisis that has resulted in economic, political and security repercussions, which the United Nations described as "dangerous".
The active political forces in the Sudanese street believe that the solution to the crisis lies in ending all the consequences of the procedures of the twenty-fifth of October, continuing to dismantle the empowerment of the Brotherhood regime, unifying the army according to agreed professional bases, and achieving justice for the dead protests.
On the fourth of July, Al-Burhan announced the withdrawal of the army from the dialogue and left the space for the political forces to form a government of competencies, after which the Sovereignty Council would be dissolved and a Supreme Council for Security and Defense would be formed. But street forces rejected that announcement.
